Whincup is in a class of his own

John WhincupPeterborough Today Reporter went over to the Decoy Lakes Open on Sunday to have a look at some of the area’s top stillwater anglers in action to get first hand knowledge of how it should be done.

The open match was fished on the Beastie Lake which we all know has a good head of large carp in it. Unfortunately they did not show, due mainly to the rough and windy conditions.

However, I was treated to a master class of small fish fishing by the eventual winner and venue expert John Whincup.

Despite having the distraction of someone taking photos of him and bombarding him with questions, Whincup fished a cracking match, taking close to 50lb of silver fish close in on the pole with maggot and just a little further out again on red maggot. He put close to 30lb of small carp to the scales.
