F1s for Victory!

Following Grants progress over the recent festival it was clear that he had indeed won the festival. We spoke to him about it and asked his opinions on what gave him the title as Bait-Tech Festival Champ and what performances really stood out for him and why?

‘The last day of the festival was always going to be a nail biter! With 3 anglers on max points I needed a section win. I knew that if I could get a first then I couldn’t be beaten as the others on 3 wins had lower droppers than me.

The last day saw me heading for peg 4 on Jennies Lake. Jennies has always been a favourite of mine as this is where I won the 25k Parkdean Masters. One thing is assured on this lake, plenty of bites.

This lake has a real mix of fish and you never know whats going to turn up next, big carp, f1s, big skimmers, tench and even big roach all have a part to play. Peg 4 is an open water peg with an aerator to fish to. This was to be a main target for me as I intended to fish and open ended feeder with groundbait and corn or meat hookbaits for the big shoals of F1s present.

One

I decided on a fishmeal mix for the feeder and to me there is nothing better than Special G Gold. Packed full of GPS90 this powerful soluble fishmeal is devastating.

Two

12 inch hooklinks are the rule here and a 6mm cube of Bait-Tech Boosted Meat or grain of Scopex Corn would complete the set up.

Three

I was hoping to catch well on this line and stay on it as long as possible. There are lots of F1s to target and hopefully I could snare a few larger carp too. Casting tight to the aerator soon had the tip moving as the F1s lined up to get at the groundbait and meat combo.

Four

A brilliant days fishing and bites all day. What a way to finish a great week. My 83lb was enough for the win I had hoped for.
