Welsh National Glory – Shakespeare Superteam Bait-Tech

Well I can say that all the miles that we have travelled in the last few months to Weston pools in Oswestry  in pursuit of greatness have thankfully paid off seeing us become welsh national champions with Shakespeare Superteam Bait-Tech we have been travelling the 200 mile round trip religiously for the last  few months trying to put a plan together for this prestigious event.

Once again I had been trusted with the draw bag something that I cant understand the lads saying I’m something of a picasso whatever that means anyway bodge just happened to mention a few pegs he would like I told him I would see what I could do into the bag and I’ve come back with a draw that we thought might give us a chance. I was on belvedere 22 Ian was on canal 17 Bob on weir 15 Andrew Mann on stretton 4 oh and bodge (Andy Neal) on one of the fore mentioned flyers in the shape of 29 on the pit there we are mate fill your boots.

My peg when I got to it to be honest didn’t quite look inspiring a spinner off to my right was going to make for a noisy day, to my right I had a margin I could only fish a top kit plus a short 4th and top 5 to my left. Interestingly I only had 1 barbel and 3 ide this side so we wont mention that again. I’ve had a line at top 4 in front of me where I would fish maggots top 6 where I’d fish corn over Bait-Tech Super Seed Hemp and the same concoction down my right hand edge.

Not a lot to report for the 1st 2 hours really odd small f1 on maggot and a few ide 2 4lb carp on the 6m hemp and corn line, looking around the lake there were a few people catching on the noted pegs so with 2hrs to go I needed snookers, so I’ve gone on my margin line a little earlier than normal and just started nicking odd fish alternating between single and double corn, all the time the peg was starting to come to life. With 2hrs to go I estimated that I probably had 15lb this was getting interesting started to put a few large carp and the odd big barbel in the net and I’m flying 5 mins to go I’ve had a right munter of about 12lb ‘All Out’ end of match. I managed to put 90lb on the scales which put me 5th in my 12 peg section a decent result off not such a good peg 124lb won lake with a 117lb  next 111lb and 102lb so it was tight really.

Phone calls made to the lads to see what the scores were bodge said he would be 4th or 5th Andy Mann said he’d be last Bob well Bob is Bob didn’t know eggy said he would be 3rd so a mixed bag of results when we got back to HQ Bodge and Bob were actually 2nd Andy Mann was 5th I was 5th and Ian was 3rd giving us 17 points as questions asked everyone we asked were in the 20s had we done it? The results were read out in reverse order a nervous wait to hear 4th place 3rd place 2nd place were all read out and we were announced as welsh federation of anglers national champions! To say we were delighted was an understatement all the miles and hard work had paid off oooooooosh get in!
