Q&A with Bait-Tech’s Lee Werrett

12.05.15_2“I fish a lake which holds a lot of big carp running from 4lb up to low double figures and I like catching these fish on straight lead tactics. The problem is that I catch a few early on in the session then I seem to struggle for just the odd fish. I usually use 8mm pellets on a hair tied to a bait band. Can you give me some tips on how to improve on how many I’m catching?”

Bait-Tech’s Lee Werrett says:

There are a few things that you can do to swing things in your favour and the first is to try using double baits rather than singles. You’re targeting fish up to double figures and these carp have quite large mouths and think nothing of gulping down a double 8mm pellet offering or even double 11mm pellets!

12.05.15_1It’s something I do a lot at Bait-Tech Viaduct Fishery and even wrapping paste around these as well having a few options I’m sure will help you put more fish in the net. I like to regularly feed Bait-Tech Carp & Coarse Pellets in either 8mm or 11mm sizes and like to keep these going in regularly too, even when I’m not getting bites – regular feeding should see the fish come back and in numbers.

What’s also great for this when used in conjunction both single and double baits is Special G Gold groundbait mixed as a paste and wrapped around your pellet hookbait. It can be deadly!
