1st Spring Session – Dean Watson

dean_swp_1For me Spring always starts in March and this session saw my first visit to the bank for this time of year, coupled with a Bait-tech meeting. New products, plans for 2015/2016 the usual banter and a good catch up with the Bait-Tech Carp team.

After the meeting the team and I ventured over to Suffolk Waterpark for a few nights of Carpy tales and pursuing a few in the process.

With the carp just starting to wake up from their winter slumber and not knowing the lake that well, a quick lead about to find clear areas was my starting method. Last thing I wanted was to thrash the water to a foam with a marker float.

With a few areas sorted I had two rods on solid PVA bags with the 3rd on a baited area, only 8-10 large spombs of the measured Spodmix, fishing a pop-up on the edge of the patch everything was set.The alarms were dancing within hours but only bream were the outcome. These fell to the Solid bags. After the recasts it was the same outcome, Bream city in front of me.

The snotters kept me up most of the night with one looking a good double figure size, but not what we came for.

It was the following morning when the middle rod came to life (the baited area)  CARP ON!!

After a little scrap I soon had a lovely scaley 22lb mirror in the net, thanks to Craig Mortimer for the net skills. First carp of the spring and a stunner at that.  Once again the trusted spodmix and hook baits doing the damage. Tried, tested & trusted products.

All the details will be explained on the Bait-Tech DVD being released very soon!

Until then, enjoy your time on the bank, all the best & tight lines
